About the Laboratory

LOC (Laboratory of Waves and Currents) is part of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at COPPE (Program for Post-Graduation in Engineering), from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

LOC facilities are used mainly for research and teaching activities related to both undergraduate and graduate courses. LOC staff and research team also develop various partnerships with the industry and service sectors. The facility is supervised by Professors Antonio Carlos Fernandes and Joel Sena Sales Junior.

The Laboratory is prepared to face different challenges in the offshore industry, developing solutions for a wide variety of problems in Ocean Engineering in the following Research Areas:

    - Renewable energy devices;

    - Small-scale test of floating structures;

    - Modeling of several environmental conditions;

    - Numerical modeling of floating structures.
